Cathy Come Home - 60th Anniversary Screening

  • The David Hume Institute @ EICC Live 150 Morrison Street Edinburgh, Scotland, EH3 8EE United Kingdom (map)

Join the David Hume Institute in partnership with The Open University, Shelter Scotland and EICC Live for an anniversary screening of Ken Loach’s landmark drama Cathy Come Home.

First broadcast in November 1966, it reached 16 million people, a quarter of the UK population at the time.

The film is widely regarded as one of the most influential and defining pieces in British broadcasting history. It features a young working-class couple, Cathy and Reg, as they start married life full of hope, but a workplace injury and rising rents tip them into a downward spiral through Britain's housing system.

The film will be followed by reflections and discussion chaired by former BBC journalist, Clare English who will be joined by SallyAnn Kelly of Shelter Scotland and Gerry Mooney, Emeritus Professor of Scottish Society and Social Welfare at The Open University.
