The David Hume Institute has a small core team who work with research associates and partners to deliver the organisation’s work.

Susan Murray

Director

Susan is an experienced executive and non-executive director who joined DHI in November 2019. She is a Trustee of Foundation Scotland which has distributed more than £200 million to communities in Scotland. She was a founding Trustee of the ICAS Foundation, which aims to increase the diversity of young people entering the finance profession and was a Board member of NatureScot, formerly known as Scottish Natural Heritage between 2016 and 2021. Susan has studied at the University of Edinburgh, Goldsmiths College University of London, Aberdeen Business School and is a Clore Social Leadership Fellow. In 2025 Susan was selected as LGIU Top 25 Thinkers.


Robert Noyes

Research and Engagement Lead

Robert joined DHI in April 2026 as Research and Engagement Lead. He was previously co-director at Platform London, where he ran national campaigns on climate finance, delivered qualitative and quantitative research with academic partners and jointly ran the organisation.

Earlier in his career, Robert held a range of cross-sector roles building broad experience in research, programme delivery and organisational development. A graduate of Newcastle University, Robert is currently undertaking a part-time postgraduate degree in PPE at Birkbeck, University of London alongside his work at the David Hume Institute.


Andrew Robert Watson

Research Associate

Andrew is Research Director at Housing Opinion, and a Research Affiliate with the UK Collaborative Centre for Housing Evidence (CaCHE) and the Urban Big Data Centre (UBDC). He holds an MSc from the University of Glasgow and an MBA from the University of Northampton. His PhD examined landlord investment behaviours and their impact on the Scottish Private Rented Sector.

Before moving into academia, Andrew worked in consulting and senior corporate roles across multiple sectors. He is a former Deputy Chair of the SafeDeposits Scotland Charitable Trust and currently serves as a board member of Share, the Scottish charity for learning and development in the housing and property sector. His current research interests span housing economics, investment behaviour, and housing systems.
